Step 7. Do I need an Apron? Print dwg!
PRO-ECO-LITE (tm) COMPOSITE HEADWALL STRUCTURES
Canada Patented - US Patent Nos: D477,543 - D477,544
US Patent Pending
APRONS
* Aprons - bolted to the base flange of the headwall for additional anchoring.
Consult the site engineer to confirm the necessity for the use of aprons or tiebacks.
Aprons are used whereby the ground conditions are less stable and additional anchorage may
be required to stabilise the headwall installation. Fast flowing streams may generate
excessive forces necessitating the need for additional anchorage via the use of the apron. For
installation see "Material Specs/Install text & dwg." on the main catalogue page.
Aprons - All models will accommodate 12" - 18" deep aprons. Some engineers may
recommend the use of aprons to prevent undermining of the headwall or for additional
anchorage in poor ground conditions
In Series 3 and 4 aprons provide a 12" high anchor base and 18" in Series 5, 6 and 7 to the
full width of the headwall. Provided in the bottom of the anchor are 4" dia. holes to
accommodate ground water pressure and drainage.
Aprons are attached to the front base of the headwall unit by s/s fasteners provided with the
apron. The apron should be installed prior to the installation of the headwall. Compaction
should be provided prior to attachment of the headwall. 'Installation Instructions' Page 1 and 2
of this catalogue.
Aprons incorporate non-corrosive chemical resistant laminates with proprietary polymer
concrete in the manufacturing process.
ANCHORING
Additional anchorage can also be obtained by implementing tieback anchors to the pipe or to
dead man anchors set into backfill. Hollow stiffeners are provided on the backside of each
headwall to accommodate any tie back requirements.
